Patrick O'Malley was flown to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery to fuse his C3 through C6 vertebrae on Saturday, Sept. 16, his daughter-in-law Lauriann O’Malley, said on a GoFundMe page.
He remained in critical condition battling pneumonia on a ventilator as of Sept. 23, Lauriann said. He had limited feeling and no movement, she said.
"Our family is anticipating a long and difficult road ahead and we are asking for your support," Lauriann added.
As of Thursday, Sept. 28, the campaign had raised more than $101,000.
